Requirements to Work as a Live-in Caregiver
To work as a live-in caregiver in Canada, you must meet the following requirements:
- Job Offer: Have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer to work as a live-in caregiver.
- Work Permit: Obtain a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to support your work permit application.
- Education: Have completed the equivalent of Canadian secondary school education.
- Language Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in English or French, depending on the language spoken in your province of employment.
- Experience or Training: Have at least six months of full-time training or at least one year of full-time paid work experience as a caregiver or in a related field within the past three years.
- Health and Police Clearance: Pass a medical exam and obtain a police clearance certificate to show that you have no criminal record.
